I left of the Studio this week to conduct an engagement session on Healthcare Design at the Society of Interior Designers Academy. The talk took place at M.Spacio Showroom at the Poiz Centre, Singapore. Accredited Interior Designers who have an interest in the healthcare sector attended the session, the first of the year.

Stakeholders

The agenda included my 20-20 presentation on fertility issues and the design of spaces to support fertility treatment. Examples focused on some of the semen collection rooms we’ve designed; my point being that there are real design problems to solve in such a space. To be successful, designers need to place stakeholders ahead of their ego when approaching such subjects. Participants were asked to recall the presentation and develop a word cloud for the stakeholders mentioned in the the 20 slides. Their input was great.

Challenges in Healthcare Design

I began the session asking the designers in the room their opinion on healthcare. The results were positive, perhaps attributable to Singapore’s handling of COVID. Designers were also asked what they considered to be the greatest challenges in Healthcare Design now. I went on to elaborate on the challenges our clients, users and various stakeholders face, then touched on healthcare transformation, stakeholders and what makes healthcare design fascinating. Actually there’s so much to talk about but of course we need to stay focused for the session; challenges and stakeholders. I described parts of my design process which I consider to be quite unusual, which ultimately revolves around engagement and facilitation. We closed with some examples of the Healthcare Design work we have recently completed. Please visit our Portfolio for further insights.
