Thomson Medical Group is a trusted brand name long associated with quality services. Headquartered out of Singapore, Thomson Medical Group aims to develop an integrated healthcare system across Pan-Asia.
Besides focusing on obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) and paediatric services, Thomson Medical has expanded its operations to include new areas of specialities and services to care for women beyond maternity and their families across generations and operates across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
In 2019, work began on a large space in the Paragon Medical Tower, Orchard Road, Singapore. The tenancy featured a double volume space and sufficient floor area for 6 services including Thomson Wellth (wellness and aesthetics), Thomson Imaging and Thomson Fertility.
There were a number of new strategies emerging for the group including the concept of a Nodal Centre, the new Thomson Wealth brand and potential partnerships with technology companies. All these ideas were coming together to showcase in a project that would welcome its first clients with 4 months.
With our extensive interior design experience in the medical sector, Merrowsmith Design Partnership was the obvious choice for Thomson Medical Group.
The Thomson Wellth Clinic was the lead brand initiative for the first of TMG’s nodal centres – larger platforms where several services are co-located, enabling individuals and even families to get multiple needs met in one visit.
The Singapore Business Times reported, “Not only does this concept increase convenience for patients, it also results in cost savings for TMG. For instance, TMG pays less per square foot when leasing larger spaces, and for each nodal centre built, several smaller clinics in the area can be closed down.”
Our priority at the onset was to meet the client’s program for delivering the centre. As often the case, other lease agreements and penalties hinged on the success of relocating business units in a timely manner. Space planning was intensive with each business unit having a separate client service point. There are over 60 rooms in total including 2 operating theatres, the embryology laboratory and the radiology suite. In addition we make excellent use of the double volume space to welcome clients where we introduce technology and new products. The successful layout and design of the interiors allows each brand to claim a space, yet sit comfortably side by side.
