Principal
Nicholas is an experienced design professional with a broad portfolio of work. Principal of Merrowsmith Design Partnership which he established in 2015, Nicholas trained and worked in the UK before relocating to Singapore in 1993. He is recognized in the design community for his project work and passion for design. He has held a number of industry posts including the Presidency of the Interior Design Confederation Singapore, from 2009 to 2011. His extensive portfolio shows a willingness to design from the front and manage teams to bring about enduring solutions.
Significant milestone projects include the 700,000 sq ft NUH Medical Centre, commissioned in 2013, HSBC Flagship Branch at Collyer Quay, the upgrading of Hong Leong Building at 16 Raffles Quay and the interior fitout of Great Eastern Life’s headquarters in Cross Street. His design awareness and systematic approach has lead to a number of healthcare commissions in recent years where his work has been acknowledged by hospital teams, architects, medical planners and project consultants.
An effective member of the NUH Medical Centre design team, Nicholas lead the interior design process from brief development, through space planning and design, specification and quality control. Incorporating 10 Specialist Outpatient Clinics, an Ambulatory Surgical Centre and the National University Cancer Institute, the NUH Medical Centre has the capacity to receive 250,000 patient visits per year. Facilities include over 250 examination rooms, 50 procedure rooms, 8 operating theatres, 5 pharmacies and the radiation and chemotherapy centres.
With a passion for designing customer contact experiences and activity based working environments, Nicholas continues to research and develop solutions to bring about effective change in patient care and customer service, improving communication, safety and organisational change.
Nicholas holds a Masters of Design from Buckingham College of Higher Education in the United Kingdom and is a Member of the Interior Design Confederation Singapore and Corenet Global, Singapore Chapter.
